You should be dancing, yeah!

I used to dance when I was a small person, and have taken it up again in the last few years, and I have been so lucky to find amazing teachers, who have also become my friends, and I thought maybe I should stop hogging them. I tap dance with the one and only Pierre Hobson and take jazz with the sunny Rachel Santos.

Pierre has been running his tap studio, Klaxson, for almost 10 years and now teaches 8 classes a week, including one at a school in Repentigny, for all you Repentignites out there. He’s studied with all kinds of awesome people, and does New York style Tap Dance - like Gregory Hines - but these days gets most of his inspiration at his yearly “religious holiday”, the Jazz Fest. Every two years, the school puts on a huge show. The last have been Radio Tap at the Corona Theater in 2005, and DiscoTap in 2007 at the Salle Pierre-Mercure. Awesome stuff, if you call him he’ll give you demos, you can come check out a class, which is right near Atwater metro.

Rachel was born and raised in California and has a dance degree from San Jose State University. She’s an incredible dancer, and apparently also a gifted choreographer! Her jazz choreographies were featured in Klaxson’s DiscoTap, and they were fabulous. She’s lived in Montreal for a few years now where she started tapping with Pierre and was inspired to start teaching herself. After 3 years, she teaches a loyal and growing student base, teaching dance fundamentals, ballet exercises, floor exercises, and choreography in every class (she also makes us do push-ups and sit-ups, but it’s good for you, I swear). She’s still a well kept secret so her class sizes are small, I recommend taking advantage of it if you can)
