Win Osheaga Tix – MONTREAL BAND NAME SCRAMBLE!
by alanahKnow your Montreal bands? You can win a chance to see them play along with Indie-greats at Osheaga on September 8th and 9th.
There are 19 local band names hidden in the paragraph below. Post a comment with one of those band names and you will be entered in the raffle to win a pair of Osheaga tickets. One catch: you have to find a band name that nobody else has posted yet – no copying! If you need some inspiration, check out the Osheaga lineup, as well as the artists who have played at Indyish’s Monthly Messes.
Here’s an example:

You can surely pick out Montreal’s most obvous band, Arcade Fire in the sentence above. Now have a go at that the paragraphs below. In honour of Sunday morning, they are about the Tam Tams…
Mount Royal avenue is a parade of scruffy artist-types in bare feet, punks in steel-toes, chic chic hipsters in cowboys’ boots and an old creature in a purple snowsuit who looks like he might be from Mars. There are no fashion faux-pas where they are all heading: up to Tams tams on the mountain (ok, technically it’s a hill).
The rumble of distant drums crescendos as you near the statue where a band of a hundred drummers has united spontaneously. Cops trot by on pony-back but yer booze is legal if you pack a picnic so wolf down your baguette and break out the wine – nothing can destroy this good time. Then lay back and watch the clouds – there’s a whole zoo in the sky: a giraffe, a pelican, a chimpanzee…and then a birdie flies by and breaks the reverie. Everyone’s hot in Montreal, and on the lookout for new lovers – a summertime fuck or a beau gars fringant.
The medieval nerds (not a coward amon them) gather behind a fortress of trees, wielding duct-tape swords that gleam like silver. Then there’s the acrobats-in-training turning cartwheels and hand-springs, showing off their juggling. Even minimum-wage workers are allowed to be dreamers and they may some day (or some year, I should say) end up as famous circus stars.
Sunday is a holy day even for sinners and Tams is our once-a-week miracle, our rasta-man’s zion, our little local taste of paradise….

wow, awesome contest post!!! this is a super idea; i love it! round of applause for the lovely alanah, and also for all those entering and finding the band names! (which does not include me, because, you know, that wouldn’t be fair, and so i am not naming any bands).

i like how the indyish volunteer team is all self-policing, we never even discussed whether it would be cool for us to enter. but of course, it would be deeply uncool. i figure. and apparently so do they!
indyish artists are totally welcome to enter though, and so are the bands playing at the monthly mess.
