It’s been quite an Osheaga-packed week here on the blog, but somehow I haven’t exhausted all there is to say about the festival. Up til now, I’ve completely neglected the non-musical events going on during the festival at Osheaga’s Art Tent, which will feature live painting, photography, drawing and mixed media visuals, a sculpture garden, a zoo-themed labyrinth, a couple of movie screenings and in the midst of all that chaos, a Zen garden. Go figure.
Kind of reminds of another place you can enjoy a genre-crossing mixed bag of arts and performances: the Monthly Mess this Friday 8pm at Main Hall. Raffle tickets will be on sale for 2 bucks at the Mess, but you’ve got one last chance to get your name in the Osheaga raffle for free.
This time we aren’t making you jump through any hoops: no mind-bending games, no demanding research, no need to talk about your feeeeeeelings (unless you want to, in which case by all means)...all you’ve got to do is go over to this here page on the Monthly Mess, copy down the name of one of the artists that will be performing, and paste that in a comment below. If you know the artist or their work, this is a great opportunity to give them a shout-out and drop us a quick line about what we can look forward to. If you don’t know them, that’s ok too: you’ll have a chance to meet’em all Friday night.
This contest is open until Friday August 31st at 5pm. The draw will be held during the Monthly Mess, Friday night at Main Hall. See ya there!
- Coward and the Pelican (music) are one of my favorite bands right now. They’re unbelievably talented, young and make me feel uncomfortably inadequate for not playing an instrument.

ALISON LOUDER. (I didn’t copy and paste: I needed the capitals.)
She is one of my favourite bands ever. She is only one person, and not technically a band at all: but her talents are so varied and exciting that the only way to conceive of her is as a 17- or 18-member band.
She is performing on Friday. And she will be the reason I win tickets to Osheaga!

‘Is that the Sound of my Voice?’ are D-O-P-E.
Quietly intense and cute to boot. They’re funny AND sexy. I believe their debut will be debuting in the near future.

Mlle Mille Feuilles (Baroque dance) with Stanislas Saint-Germain on baroque guitar.
Amazing… I’m going to start a baroque mosh pit!

cross yer fingers all! i’m rootin for you. also i have sad news which will not in any way effect the fact that you’ve successfully been entered in the raffle - sounds like receivers can’t come. we knew their drummer had another show that night but we were hoping they’d make it work anyway, but turns out no. i’m still working on trying to get Emilie to come sing us some songs, so we may have a receiver solo surprise!! anyway either way i think we’ve got a good good show..

The Coward and the Pelican are playing and I hear they are fantastic! Do I still have a chance to win a ticket to Osheaga?
Thanks, Ben
