We’re doing some internal housekeeping

Say goodbye to Artists pages!
No, but seriously, today is a happy day..

In the interest of reducing complexity and confusion for both our users and our visitors, we’ve decided to completely remove the individual “Artists” pages (a.k.a Featured Artist pages) from our system.

If you hadn’t seen one of these Artists pages before, rest assured, you weren’t missing much. Either way, we’ve been phasing them out slowly and all that content is being moved elsewhere. There is now only one central place (instead of two) to visit when you want to find out everything about a given indyish member and that place is: the almighty “Profile” page.

At the moment, links to the old Artsts pages are being forwarded to the main Indyish Artists page at: http://www.indyish.com/artists/ which has every members’ name along with a link to their individual Profile page (note: if you haven’t published a post on indyish.com, your name will not appear yet). This forwarding will be in place for about a year - which should be enough time for all the search engines to update their links. But, we’re also gonna have to ask all of you guys and girls to update any links you may have manually created that still point to an “Artists” page. These links just need to be edited so that they point to that artists Profile page instead.

So, for instance, if you had a link pointing to http://www.indyish.com/artists/dayna/ - this would now just forward to http://www.indyish.com/artists/ (try clicking it and you’ll see). Instead, you would want to update your link to point to http://www.indyish.com/author/dayna/ or whatever the indyish username is for that artist and that would point visitors to a particular Profile page. You could also just go to the main Indyish Artists page and find the Profile link from the directory listing.

Last but not least, i think it’s important to mention that this change will also have a positive impact on our ability to organize and maintain the site as a whole. We want to be building a sustainable system that we can grow over the long term. We can now turn our attention towards improving the design and functionality of the indyish Profile pages without having to worry about creating a duplicate page every time we add a new artist.

today is a happy day..
a good day.
