Watchout for Bold Saber: Pictures from the Holla-Days

by Risa Dickens

Bold Saber is a great band name- it reminds me of the bodice rippers I’d find at gramas’ or aunts’ houses growing up. It sounds like the courageous, intrepid member of a sweaty pirate guy, which is probably exactly what this dear, deadpan funny electro threesome was going for when they made it up… probably.

One thing’s for certain, Bold Saber is a mighty multi talented crew.

raf on the drums Raf is a lot of people’s favorite writer at the Montreal Mirror.

drew looks creepy but actually he is terribly sweet and good at sewing Drew makes killer band merch and awesome costumes, potentially the feature of a future Worn article by yours truly, and is also an exceptional painter. I believe he still has a few works up at Headquarters as part of the “It’s Probably Worth More Then That” show, which comes down January 5th.

miss fritz lookin futuristically fine Fritzi pulled off the first ever Puces POP Science Fair this summer.

I actually had dinner with Fritzi, Drew and a mutual friend Daniel the day after the Holla-Days show, and we talked about the Science Fair at Puces POP and the joyous, nerve-wracking crap shoot that is event management. The Science Fair faced some notoriously low follow-through that had Drew submitting multiple sceince projects at the last minute to flesh the Fair out; but it also unearthed some real brilliant folk, the type that make it all worthwhile, like the girl with the hovering chair.

Anyway, all this to say, nothing communicates “it’s finally snowing! it’s the day after Christmas! We’re still savouring memories of last night’s Chinatown buffet, and of last week’s musical festivities, and we’re starting to scheme future fun crap shoots!” like photos of Bold Saber in their shiny shiny hoods, rockin the Indyish Pop Montreal Holla-Days.
