I am a bit of an environmentalist. I try to keep it under wraps, but I don’t generally go around promoting consumerism. However, I will make an exception for the Vente Verte, August 8th and 9th only, where you can pick up clothing from local eco-friendly designers at half-price. The sale features local eco-friendly designers POSCH, On and On, Kollontai, Rachel F, and Preloved (yep, that’s Indyish’s Tessa on the left of the page).
Let me take this rare occasion to get all eco-geeky on you guys and gush about the ways that Montreal-made POSCH designs promote sustainability:
1. Chic POSCH cloth bags replace plastic bags (which, incidentally, have been banned in Kenya, San Francisco and Leaf Rapids, Manitoba)
2. Recycled fabrics reduce waste and lessen the demand for pesticide-slathered cotton
3. Buying locally reduces GHG emissions because goods don’t have to be transported halfway across the globe.
4. A percentage of POSCH’s profits support my favourite local NGO, Équiterre
5. T-Shirt designs give a shout out to international climate change policy while remaining surprisingly non-geeky and fashionable
POSCH designer, Luce Beaulieu also hosts a sustainability blog that is both pink and enlightening.
