Another good event we’ll be trying to get to today (Friday Sept 14)! This one out in NDG hosted by La Maison Vert and featuring the always galvanizing and grand Amber Goodwyn… don’t forget to sponsor her here! And secondary sidenote - I got a very cool internal email from her Lickety-Split team the other day and I won’t blow the surprise but I’m super excited to take to the streets with these passionate love warriors soon in all the gorgeous graphic ways they’re planning.

We will discuss several ways in which education can be re-defined ‘outside the system’, and address issues that arise from independent approaches to education. We hope to consider some issues which are common in standard school systems – such as assessment, consumerism and political participation – and explore alternative educational formats (such as that used by the University of the Streets Café!)
Moderator: Jim Morris is a humanities instructor at Champlain College with a background in philosophy and literature. His interests include crafting, electronics, media activism and travel. Born and raised in Alberta , Jim currently lives in Montreal.
Guests: Heather McShane is a course leader at the Thomas More Institute. Heather did her early schooling in England, completed her university degrees in Scotland and has taught in Spain, England and Fiji.
Amber Goodwyn is a multidisciplinary artist working at Head & Hands. Amber holds a BFA in Film Production from Concordia University and is an alumni of MIND School, where in collaboration with the NFB, she directed a segment on independent education as part of the documentary SALT.
Check out info on this session and upcoming ones on the University of the Streets website.
