Susie Bright is passing on a hollar for help from a friend who’s in San Francisco doing an oral history project on the origins and dirty secrets of Punk. He finds himself in serious need of a swifty sympathetic volunteer typist, so now you can be one of the first people to hear these recordings, get thanked in the book, get free copies for bragging rights, make new friends and influence people, etc!
From the awesome Bright:
He has interviewed: everybody. He knows where the bodies are buried and which ones are still in the freezer, along with all the lyrics, Telegraph Ave. acid, and sex toys.
However, Jack has one problem. His audio transcriber (that’s a person, not a thing) disappeared into a wormhole. It’s really rather shocking, but there’s no time left to file a lawsuit or hire an assassin. These interviews need to be spun from audio straw to golden text pronto!
Are you an excellent typist? Do you love punk? Are you a Bay Area freak-fan who would love to be in on one of the most insane adventures ever told?
Then please email Jack and make a little history together.
She also goes on to say…
I’m extending my credibility to say, these people are for real, they deserve support, they are not gaming anyone. The interviews are fantastic, and Jack and Silke have outdone themselves in their research, consideration, and comprehension of a much-tangled web.
And here’s the plea straight from the intrepid and for-real folks themselves:
Local authors desperately seek transcribers for an extensive punk oral history project which will be published as a book in 2008. Fascinating, harrowing and hilarious tales of punk life in the Bay Area from mid-80s to mid-90s.
Audio interviews with musicians, skaters, squatters, hedge-divers, zine writers, shit workers, and activists need to be translated into text as soon as possible.
All files are .wma audio format, can be converted to mp3. No cash available, but copies of the book with your name in gushing acknowledgments is guaranteed.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the first comprehensive history of the punk generation that changed it all.
