While the original plan was to do little reviews and write ups of all the designers I would be seeing during fashion week, it became clear in a very short amount of time, that that was simply impossible. After dealing with some press pass issues that lead to missing fashion week opener and project runway canada winner Evan Biddell’s show (who, I’ve been told, walked out giving everyone the finger after his show, classy there buddy), I walked into the tents set up at the Nathan Philip Square ready to snap some shots of the beautifully dressed fashion week attendees. After a few hours of walking around I came to the realization that there just really isn’t that many fashionable people there! To be fair, what’s “fashionable” varies from person to person, but still, weird?
Despite that, it’s entertaining! We’ve pretty much just been getting up from bed, to shows, to schmoozing, air kisses and “cute shoes”, to shows all day, to bed, to some more shows. It’s all pretty intense but the best part of my days is whenever the voice of Jeanne Beaker booms through the tent during her interviews with the designers. The word “avant-garde” is thrown around far more then it should because lets face it, we are talking about Canadian Fashion, and when the big show of the week is Joe Fresh, really, it’s just no Marc Jacobs or Balenciaga.
I’ve realized that I don’t know if it’s from being around all these fashion people, from being in Toronto or from the countless times I flashed my media pass and pretended to be someone of importance, but I’ve become extremely cynical. So look forward to some more posts where I’ll tell you everything that’s wrong with fashion week, and then when I’m back in Montreal and not so angry, look forward to some glowing reviews about Denis Gagnon and an ode to my favorite person ever, the one and only ms. Jeanne Becker. In fact, I’m off to see the unveiling of a new Bratz doll created under her image. Kiss kiss, nice shoes.
Jeanne Beker rules!!!

Jeanne makes me so happy, every run-in with her is the highlight of my life! I was behind her when she got refused access to the media tent for not having her pass and bit my tongue not to offer her mine or to tell off that security guard and I’ve seen her walk the runway not once, but TWICE. they also had the launch of the new Jeanne Bratz doll (kind of gross…). It’s Jeanne central and I could not be happier! I’m totally stepping on that ode blog post here, but man. Yeah!!
