Good morning! Good morning! Time to get out of bed! Time to get off the computer and step into the hot hot heat of the bestest Saturday in Montreal!
But first read this…
The Main is closed to traffic and open for drinking on terraces everywhere, a strange and eclectic variety of food, buskers, and plenty of places to shop for cheap, unique clothes. We’ve got all-day beer and music at the Fringe Festival outdoor site at Parc des Amériques, and a hundred theatre shows going on all within walking distance. If this all sounds overwhelming, drop by and see me at the Beer Tent Info Booth (corner Rachel and St-Laurent) before 5pm and I’ll point you towards something weird and/or wonderful according to your preference.
Here is a quick rundown of the FREE MUSIC at the beer tent this afternoon:
1 pm Puff and the Pillpoppers
1:45 Amy Blackmore (of fringe show Hardcore Pussy and cover-of-the-mirror fame)
2 pm Famous Lovers
3 pm Euphoreador
4 pm Slow Hand Motem
5 pm FM HiLow CD release party
Followed by Pop Montreal artists this evening, which probably merit their own post. I’d like to put in an extra plug for Slow Hand Motem, from the wacky land of Hamilton, Ontario, who play a totally danceable set of - to coin a term - debrouillard-rock. To give you an example, I’ve picked out the sweet sounds of a blow-dryer on Slow Hand’s album.
Fraser MacDougall aka FM HiLow is also one of my fav Montreal musicians to listen to on a Saturday afternoon. He’s like a ray of sunshine one what’s turning out to be a sunny day. His syrupy voice surfs layers of looped acoustic sounds and beats, plus his set features a dumpster-dived Fisher Price record player. Does it get any more wholesome and all-round awesome than that?
