METHINKS is coming! Yay, just heard from Paul Aflalo our Indyish Monthly Mess producer and he’s spoken with our traveling, faceless-to-us collaborators, and they are on their way to the venue as we speak/blog to set up the Montreal installment of their travelling art escapade! And then sound check begins for the mix of acts we’ve booked together, and then volunteers converge, and doors open, and melodic madness ensues.
The METHINKS “We Made a Deal With the Devil” collaboration has had as many different forms as they’ve had stops on the tour, and from the blog it sounds like the show is aptly named, and bravely set upon.
Here’s a recent quote from METHINKS time in Ottawa. Hint: Ottawa, Beware the Terror Clown!:
we didn’t come here to sight see this time (or at least it wasn’t our prime objective). No, we’re here b/c We Made A Deal with the Devil, and until we(+he) showed up at Avante Garde Bar to install our Portage Gallery showcasing over 90 artists from around the globe, we had no idea how litteral (sic) the deal would be.
(…) Alex, Lisa, Andrzej + I are waiting for the owner/barkeep/+general_despot to show up. He lurches up just as Karol + Ringer pull up in our truck with the sound gear & check out the what-we-don’t-know-yet-to-take-as-a-bad-omen of a broken side-view mirror (apparently they threaded the needle and the needle lost).
(…)
So we may have gotten off to a rocky start (and even midway point, where the Czar of the ‘Bar, after we all rigged the space and are in the midst of tossing a killer party, can’t even comp a glass of OJ freshly-squeezed from a bag of condensed sugar water. And I know he squeezed it between his ass cheeks but I still don’t think it was worth the $3 bucks…. I definitely think this warrants a visit from the Terror Clown on our return trip -> If only b/c I’m disappointed in myself for actually paying for it!)
Our experiences with the Monthly Mess have led us into countless variations of venue owner, and not all have been glowing, so we are sympathetic, ready to offer plentiful beverage to our collaborators, and to trade tales.. or maybe tails? Because half the time we are the devils ourselves, no doubt.
The performances tonight will be really exciting. Check these 2 posts out for details on all the artists involved in the live show (that is, in addition to the 90+ involved in the METHINKS tour! crazy town.):

We’ve added dance and short film and a brief monologue from a play by Ariel Dorfman about human rights, to a line up which already includes deft hip hop and electro pop and a set of Billie Holiday covers I can’t wait for, performed by Brie Neison and Franco Proietti (check out mp3’s from their other work below and then imagine them experimenting with the great lady together…!)
We are also very honoured to have Rahul Varma coming to our stage, founder of Teesri Dunyia theatre company, playwright, and inspiring human, throwing his professional and creative All into the mission of truth telling toward peace.
It will inevitably be diverse and delicious to be all together, making a Mess with our fellow diabolicals and ever-hopefuls. Whether you’re in Montreal or not we do hope you’ll join us!
The show will be webcast live on the blog tonight starting at 9pm EST.
If by chance there are technical difficulties we’ll make every attempt to get video up without too much delay.
