this from an email i sent out to my family re: weekend events!
It went well! I made arrangements for the maximum we could accommodate, and mentally prepared for the minimum, and for the daytime events we ended up somewhere in between. The show was splendid- the lights looked beautiful bc Merissa’s very professional boyfriend Steve Portigal helped us out, and the room was full, and the hosts were funny, and the bands were so enjoyable to sit and listen to, and everybody complimented us on a beautiful evening and a beautiful website. (repeated thanks for the event go to Merissa Tordjman and Steve Portigal- they are the pro’s who made things smooth and cool, and seemingly effortless, esp the show. i was the giggly, geeky, chatty one and i think my main contribution to things on Sunday night was my easygoing with the flow. really, i was just tired. normally i’m a control freak. kidding.)
After effects: out-of-left field bits of goodness are still popping up: we got work out of it almost immediately in the form of a new website contract, and the artist contacts we made were very very good. the people who came out were very professional and it felt so good to have them excited about what we’re up to. The music video winners were amazing, and the bands were very very happy- some are working on getting the music videos that we helped get made aired. Some want to collaborate with the video makers to evolve ideas. All are honoured at the thought of these people working all night on one of their songs.
We made enough to cover our costs for the weekend, plus another 150$. And indyish.com rose over 1 million spots in the internet site rankings over the course of the launch build up, putting us within reach of the top 200 000. (update: we broke the two hundred thousand!) Very cool, esp since it’s such a new site, compared to the other ones up there. Very positive all around. One band sold more cd’s at our show then they ever have at any show before!
there were glitches and things we learned, but it was all really surprisingly smooth.

AND!!
My sisters and mom worked together on the 24hr design project that was part of the indyish weekend (the one where you make something with everything in the kit) and they were one of the winners! The judges picked them! So they won passes to the contemporary museum, and a gift certificate to a beautiful designer clothing store, and their work is on display at a downtown gallery that’s hosting a little cheers for the winners on tuesday. i was/am so proud!
anyway- that’s my quicky update. it was good. we are good. love you!

hmm, it seems there are 2 Steve Portigal’s. freaky. the Steve i was referring to is a head electrician in Canadian theatre, and this new Steve is a communications thinker and product developper, and cultural anthrolopoligist type, yes? i believe Elran has drawn my attention to your Freshmeat before, new Steve. It’s quite cool to have you here poking about actually. welcome!
