This spring, Indyish invites you to celebrate that glorious free-reeling traveling feeling, all without leaving Montreal. The Travel Mess brings together an interdisciplinary lineup of indie art, including music, storytelling, theatre, photography, painting and comedy, with an on-the-road kind of vibe.

Ladies of the Canyon headline the show with their open-road twang and the meandering harmonies of Maia Davies, Senja Sargeant, Jasmine Bleile and Anna Ruddick, and FM Hi Low rolls into town from Peterborough ON to share his richly layered guitar riffs and a catchy case of travel-bug tunes.

John Hastings will return to host a second Monthly Mess with his kicked back sense of humour.

Local actress Lydia Zadel plops us down in the passenger seat with a excerpt from David MacIvor’s high-tension hitchhiking classic, See Bob Run. This performance is a sneak preview of her 2008 Fringe Festival production. Award-winning fiction writer Cora Dean spins stories from far-off lands, and guests are invited to weave their own true travel tales onto a communal map. The Travel Mess will surely be something to write home about, and guests can pick an original postcard off the wall to send a note to a friend from the Mess. Helen Kyle’s world travelled canvases will adorn the walls alongside map and postcards.

May’s edition of the Monthly Mess sets up camp at OFF Interarts once again, 5145 Saint Laurent (between Laurier and Fairmount). Indyish’s Monthly Mess remains a Pay What You Can event in order to grant greater accessibility to the Montreal community. Any profits from the Mess go directly towards supporting the network and tools for artists at www.Indyish.com.

Indyish is a loose affiliation of folks who make stuff. Based out of Montreal, Indyish uses its Web site (www.Indyish.com) as its home base, with artist members from around the world. To date, besides over a dozen previous Monthly Messes, Indyish has organized and produced two international art relays, two 24-hour music video-making contests, and two “Open Source for Artists” workshops. Indyish.com showcases member artists with these live events, an online boutique, and a group blog updated on average twice a day.
