Indyish Assembly 2.0 Art Relay

Announcing Indyish.com’s latest collaborative art project, Assembly 2.0:
a relay for writers, directors, actors, illustrators, musicians and animators.

Assembly 1.0 was the first Indyish art relay experiment, and Indyish’s first teaming with Celtx.com. It ran from Feb- March 2007 and brought together more than 60 Canadian artists who passed projects along to create 7 original films, soundtracks and a published scriptbook.

Assembly 2.0 is part of Indyish’s special 2007 partnership with the Fringe. In it’s 7th year the Montreal Fringe brings together over 100 different theatre companies from around the world and connects with a total of over 100 000 visitors. Drawing on the Fringe’s Play-In-A-Day tradition, this Assembly will have a theatrical angle, and will connect the local music and theatre scene with the wonderful fringe-folk in town for the festival.

The Assembly 2.0 games begin on May 1st.

On that day a piece of Canadian theatre will be given to writers, becoming the starting point for 10 minute scripts to be written in French or English thoughout the month of May. Taking the idea of open source art further then Indyish ever has before, Assembly 2.0 works with other open source arts organizations from around North America, especially partners Celtx.com from Newfoundland, and allies from North Carolina (Lulu.com!) to San Francisco (CreativeCommons.org!). Then we bring all this international creative experimentation home to Montreal, for a collective live performance at the Fringe Festival.

During the Fringe, June 7-17, the Assembly 2.0 scripts get made into plays; or have illustrations drawn for them, which get made into animated gifs. Both streams come back after 48 hours to meet with musicians at the Fringe Beer Tent. They then have another 48 hours to create soundtracks. At the final screening, musicians perform live with the plays and animations, and after the performance, all the scripts get published with the illustrations in a project book, and the live performances and gifs are gathered together on a dvd.

Scripts will be written on Celtx.com, a free, open source film and theatre pre-production software. Rehearsing and animation will take place during the Montreal Fringe Festival in June, in conjunction with Indyish’s other Fringe programming. Assembly 2.0 will compliment the huge number of Fringe theatre shows going up between June 7-17th as well as Indyish’s own daytime art markets and special events including the Daily Art Markets, a fashion show, Car Art: graffiti in the street, musical performances, and more.

Indyish.com is more then an online boutique, and more then a group blog. Indyish draws on open source processes and concepts to make art, and believes in giving back to the commons: everything made in the context of an Indyish project is licensed Creative Commons Attribution 2.5. This means everything can be widely disseminated and shared, and every future Assembly has that much more material to draw from.

Le Relais des Arts à l’Assemblée 2.0

La nouvelle collaboration de projet artistique d’Indyish.com,
l’Assemblée 2.0, est un relais pour les écrivains, les réalisateurs, les
dessinateurs et animateurs.

En prenant l’idée des arts “open source” qu’Indyish affectionne,
l’Assemblée retravaille avec Celtx.com de Terre-Neuve, et sallie aussi
a la Caroline du Nord (lulu.com) et San Francisco dans un but de
création expérimentale internationale. Ensuite on ramène tout ça chez
nous à Montreal pour le festival Fringe.

L’Assemblée 1.0 était le 1er relai expérimental d’Indyish, et leur premier
travail d’équipe avec celtx.com. Cela a eu lieu de février à mars 2007
et a permis de rassembler plus de 60 artistes canadiens qui ont soutenu
leurs projets pour donner 7 films originaux, des bandes sonores et un
scénario publié.

L’Assemblée 2.0 fait partie d’Indyish au Festival Fringe. Basé sur les
représentations d’un jour du Fringe, cette assemblèe aura un point de
vue théatrale, et sera liée à la musique locale en compagnie des joyeux
fous du Fringe en ville pour le Festival.

Les jeux de l’Assemblée 2.0 commence le 1er mai.
Pendant ce mois, un extrait écrit canadien sera le point de départ pour
10 minutes de script écrit en français ou en anglais. Pendant le
fringe, ces scripts seront transformés en pièce de théâtre, ou en
illustrations, ce qui les rendra animés. Les sections reviennent
ensuite pour 48h afin de les présenter aux musiciens, qui auront aussi
48h pour les transformer en musique.

Au final, les musiciens joueront en direct ces extraits théâtrales et
leurs animations. Après ça, les scripts seront publiés dans un livre,
et la performance musicale et l’animation enregistrées sur un DVD.

Les scripts seront écrits sur celtx.com, un logiciel gratuit pour la
préproduction des films et du théâtre. Les répétitions
seront pendant le festival Fringe de Montréal en juin, en alternance
avec les autres programmation d’Indyish et du Fringe.
L’Assemblée 2.0 compémentera le nombre énorme de shows du Fringe, du 7
au 17 juin, avec le Marché des Arts et les évènements spéciaux comme la
parade, le défilé de mode, etc

groupe. Indyish ouvre la voie sur les processus engageant les arts et
crois les rendre plus accesible: tout ce qui est fait dans le contexte
