More on brave new Canadian monodrama The Anorak.
Montreal playwright Adam Kelly is coming to Toronto’s Ryerson University to perform his one man show The Anorak at Oakham House for International Women’s Day. The show runs March, 6, 7 , 8 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
Oakham House is at 55 Gould Street, Toronto.
I am sure Kelly will be conducting an audience forum after the show. For those in the Toronto area who want to see an outstanding piece of theatre, a piece that reminds us why the power of live performance can still stir the heart and mind, do not miss this show.
[Editor's Note: Below is a description of The Anorak from the myspace page]
“The Anorak” is a play written and performed by Adam Kelly about the Polytechnique massacre. On Wednesday, December 6, 1989 a lone gunman opened fire at the University of Montreal Polytechnique engineering school, killing fourteen women before turning the gun on himself. The play examines the life and death of the killer, known as Marc Lepine, and raises questions about family, school and acts of violence. “The Anorak” was first conceived and performed at York University in Toronto while Adam was attaining his M.FA in Acting. The show has since been performed publicly at York University’s Burton Auditorium, in Kingston at Queen’s University, and in Montreal at Zeke’s Gallery, Concordia University, the Cartier Adult Education Centre, Trafalgar School for Girls and McGill University. Since the Montreal premiere in September, 2004, the play has been named in the Montreal Gazette and Montreal Mirror’s Best of the Year. Adam was nominated for Best Actor at the 2005 MECCAS, and he spoke at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s annual Women’s Day conference.
