Celebrating the iconic Yellow Door + the Elderly Project with a live show + free mp3s

The Yellow Door is a small basement venue in Montreal’s McGill ghetto. It is tiny, awkward, with minimal technical equipment, and it glows down the street and radiates out for miles and decades with a goodness and desire to bring beauty and music and yes, even an indisputable gentleness, to all and sundry. Some places [...]

Call for performers

I’m putting on a monthly storytelling, poetry-telling series at the Green Room called Clamourous Sundays. I would it like to evolve into the kind of event where the audience members feel liberated enough to bark things back at the performers onstage, hence creating a real synergetic magnetism spiraling through the room. Clamourous. [...]

Bachelors of Fine Arts: The Longest Write-up Ever, and All Just to Talk About a Show

There are a massive number of arts that exist in the world. When I write things, I like to start them off with a short, declarative statement that expresses the obvious.

Many arts go together very well. Combining two or more arts into one experience is awesome, for the same reason that sandwiches are awesome – [...]

Nelson Mandela + Desmond Tutu – free Underground Movement story mp3

Now this is what makes the idea of “indie” cool to me, that it can apply to any sound or art practice anywhere in the world and link our small attempts with the stories of the greatest fights for freedom in our time. Do you remember when Nelson Mandela was released from prison? Were you [...]

Announcing New Poetry Night

Montreal’s spoken word scene is currently in a renaissance with several poetry events taking place weekly, monthly and throughout the year. The poets are growing in number, styles and creative vision. Unspoken Heard is a space for emerging and professional poets to reveal new, used and experimental work. This monthly event will put the focus [...]

Maha + Imogen Heap + Moe Clark

It’s been an incredible pleasure to work with the Montreal Choeur Maha Woman’s Choir in all kinds of ways over the past couple of years, from featuring them in the Nov 2007 Mess at the McAuslan Centre, before it officially opened; to coordinating and witnessing in awe their collaboration with Patrick Krief’s Black Diamond Bay [...]

Circle of She: Story + Song

” Moe Clark’s debut spoken word album announces itself quite accurately with the title of its first track: “Irresistible.” “Circle of She: Story + Song” is just as impressive musically as it is poetically.” Corey Frost, NYC. [https://wfs.gc.cuny.edu/CFrost/www/WaxFeature2.html]

This Saturday’s Throw Slam Finals will be more fun than a keg full of Fringe Festivals!

This Saturday June 21st 8pm at Le Cagibi: Throw Slam FINALS!
We’ll have not one, as is our habit, but TWO amazing spoken word artists featuring! That’s Moe Clark of Calgary, and Spencer Butt of Toronto.
We’ll also have the top scoring poets from this year’s inaugural Throw Slam season competing for bragging rights (and a top [...]

John Giorno Through Indyish Goggles

You don’t have to be weened on poetry to appreciate John Giorno’s pieces. At 72 years old, he’s the raunchy, flaming, psychedellic, grandpa that you never knew you always wanted. On Sunday night, he captivated the audience with stories about magical trees and uncountable loverboys, all with a happy-go-lucky Dr Seuss kind of cadence.

Mid Mess Update!

First time I’ve tried the mid-Mess-blog, but here goes! We’re well into the 11th Monthly Mess. Simon is on the stage and we’re not sure what his act is yet, spoken word is coming, but quietly, and he asked the MC’s (hilarious with the accents) to make up his introduction, which ended up involving fairies. [...]
