Early impressions from yesterday’s Mess with Remember Griffintown.
1. Griffintown is difficult to navigate, people who didn’t follow the one simple way to get to the venue (south on Peel, left on Ottawa) could wander for ages without seeing it. Interestingly this meant that lots of people found the place by approaching other people they [...]
The Bloc Party lads are feeling the quick draw, let’s experiment with industry conventions vibe, and have given us rabid blogging hoardes no time to get distracted by other shiny or shameful things. The release of their new album, the one they just told us about, is tomorrow. You can download it and pre-order it [...]
Just 2 fun quick video bits to share, both Wilco related (ah, Wilco.) One is the guys at Wrigley Field singing Take me Out to the Ballgame, the other is a new song performed at the year’s Lollapalooza.
Yesterday was an incredible birthday party for Indyish, our crazy legged indie arts network. The show, from my perspective, could not have gone better. It’s always nice to be reminded that the people being caricatured into enmity by extremists and “leaders” (theirs and ours) include indie music lovers, people lovers, love lovers just like us. Yes, there is an Iranian underground:
From Persionesque, here’s excerpts from an interview with Hypernova, true heart wrenching, hard rocking indie rock from Tehran, [...]
Belleisle is a young group of old souls who jumped into recording to catch these sounds as they are coming together all early, earnest and yearning in the band-becoming-band process. Tasha Cyr’s voice is particularly delicate, charming, soo soul sad and careful, thoughtful, dropping soft things in her phrasing. (Tasha is recording with the Darling [...]
Ideal Lovers opened Saturday’s Suoni Festival show at a packed Sala Rossa. They played funky blues that would be well-suited to an outdoor venue at the Jazz Festival. The standing crowd danced a bit and the band did a good job of warming us up, but I was anxious to see Vic Chestnutt and tired [...]
Cancel your plans for Saturday night.
