I’ve been writing a bit lately about public art. I just came across the work of Paul “Moose” Curtis on Laughing Squid. The British artist does large-scale designs on underpasses and building walls using a process called “reverse graffiti“, where he takes high-pressured water and removes dirt through stencils to make his images. Here’s a [...]
Our friend Jeff (of the 20th project and The Desks) is inviting people to collaborate on a song he recorded in December. He’s posted an mp3 of the track here and stated,
If you can think of some good parts to add (eg drums, piano, vocals, tuba, etc) please play along and record your new part. [...]
Youtube has hosted several different production contests with big prizes backed by oddly art-interested corporations like Hewlett Packard. The newest short film project pre-Sundance recently provoked some compelling creations made just for web (see Project Direct Press). Viewers voted on the winner and picked the 6 minute piece called Lacos (Ties) by Clarice and Adriana [...]
Are you, like Alanah, looking for a way to exert joyful earthy energy? This weekend do it here in the Mile End, Montreal neighborhood while making an eerily apt symbolic claim for a public garden.

This weekend has been a continuous turnstile of handing off Assembly projects. The filmmaking step, which took place last week, was the most difficult stage to find (and keep!) participants. Understandably, filmmakers are more reluctant to take on projects as they need a camera, sound and lighting equipment, editing gear, and have to find actors [...]
That’s right. It starts Saturday. There’s still time to sign up if you haven’t yet. Just make sure to send me an email by Wednesday and I’ll hook you up with the appropriate info.
First comes writing (FEBRUARY 10-16)
Then comes filmmaking (FEBRUARY 17-24)
Then comes music in the baby carriage? (FEBRUARY 25-MARCH 2)
Um right. Whichever step you’re [...]
So this Indyish Assembly relay project starts next week and we’ve gotten lots of great responses from people who wanna take part. Hurrah!
One thing I still wanna prepare is a list of people with specific skills, like say costume design or video editing, who can be called on by participants looking for some help or [...]
Think you can create the soundtrack for a short film? Indyishâs latest film and music project, The Assembly, is a new brand of artistic relay race that challenges you to do just that.
Writing teams will be given a common starting point: original sheet music by a local music group. Their challenge is to write [...]
