Q-Tip talks Kamaal the Abstract – videos + track listing

We are excited for this album, there is no flow quite like Q-tip, and it’s interesting to watch these videos and hear how he’s been thinking about this work over the years.
Battery Records (a subsidiary of BMG) is set to release long-awaited, much anticipated Q-Tip album Kamaal the Abstract:
In these hard times, we can [...]

Mr. McBludgeon

This track is one that clearly shows our style. The name Mr. Mc Bludgeon was chosen to give credit to the Dave (since Mr. McBludgeon is his stage name).
The song was recorded almost 100% in an abandoned beer brewery. Definately a hit in our books! (If only virgin radio would agree)

Pop Montreal Review: (((((Echoes Still Singing Limbs)))))

Montreal’s Echoes Still Singing Limbs ushered in an otherworldly atmosphere during their opening set at Le Cagibi for the Saturday portion of Pop Montreal. Lead by multi-instrumentalist Nick Kuepfer (AIDSWolf, One Candle Power) and featuring Nader Hasan (voices, acoustic guitar, broken telephone, antlers), Kristina Koropecki (cello) and Aidan Jeffery (voices, harmonium, percussion), this four piece [...]

economics lp

The first official economics album is a self-titled collection of 12 songs that have gained the courage to see their official release in August 2008. The album’s four parts recall impressions of untold histories: a naive childhood perspective that
becomes extinct with age; the pensive elegance of an isolated small town; the daily routine of a [...]

Krief’s Black Diamond Bay and Maha videos – again with the Mess previews.

Did I mention we’re doing an Indyish Monthly Mess tomorrow at Sala Rossa? Well, this guitar god crooner with his lovely band is playing, ie’ Patrick Krief and Black Diamond Bay.

Heads up – For our show they are collaborating with an awesome experimental women’s choir we’ve worked with before and are fans of, called [...]

Suoni Review – The Nels Cline Singers

For its variety and energy alone this was an entertaining show. The Nels Cline Singers are all over the shop. They covered too much musical ground for me to talk about with any real insight. Jazz, free jazz, rock ballads, there were classical, post rock and ambient elements. I think what bound these elements was [...]

Suoni Review – Carla Bozulich’s Evangelista and Oneida at Sala

Review of Saturday’s show at Sala Rossa. A part of Indyish’s coverage of Suoni Per Il Popolo.
Oneida play heavy and intense. Their music is a steady-driving barrage of sped-up Sabbath drum-driven guitar rock. Most of their songs that night were instrumental, though a few had melodic vocals and every song started with the drummer kicking [...]

Interview and Experiments with Thomas Buckner on the Podcast

Thomas Buckner, a player in the emergence of free improv and the American avant garde in the 1960’s and 70’s, in decades since has traveled the world performing and supporting the development of contemporary classical and experimental music. And Thomas Buckner was our honoured guest yesterday for an Indyish interview and jam.
Beyond being called [...]
