Suoni Tonight!! Shalabi Effect and other treats

by sarah pearson

My first Suoni show!!! here’s what I’m checking out tonight at the Sala (you should too):

Excepter, a six-person noise-improv musical group from Brooklyn, is an electronic performance group devoted to the destruction of boundaries between the psychic friends network and reality television. Excepter is the last living non-linear, anti-tribal protest band mutineered to destroy prison music through both misery and ecstasy.

The base sound of Shalabi Effect comes from a combination of Middle Eastern modes, played by Sam Shalabi on the Oud, and the cinematic psychedelic style of Anthony Seck. Add to this concoction the experimental influence of Avant Guardiste Alexandre St. Onge, as well as North Indian percussion by Will Eizlini, and you get the current core sound stew; often spiced with special guests and their influences.

Intercom was founded in 2002 out of a desire to create spontaneous improvised music. They use synths, DIY software and a variety of instruments to create a maelstrom of psychedelia, noise, electronic and rock.

The All Dressed Trio, made up of Anne-Françoise Jacques (Le Son 666, Minibloc), Erin Sexton (Aircraft!) and Jackie Galant (Lesbians on ecstasy), is back this year after their debut performance at last’s year Suoni.

Improvised software music, avant-guarde Oud-cum-North-Indian rockins’, noise-improv from Brooklyn….what a wickedly cool night it’s gonna be.
