Thursday June 12th at 9pm –> Mount Eerie and Bob Wiseman at the Suoni Festival. I anticipate this being a dark show. Take a good look at the photo above. Be prepared for “death themed”, investigative, unpredicable music from two weathered and luminary dudes.
Mount Eerie’s Phil Elverum came of age artistically during the supposed “grunge era.” He eventually moved to Olympia, immersing himself in the music world surrounding Calvin Johnson’s K records. There he continued the late night solo recording experiments he started earlier in Anacortes, eventually releasing his first album with K as The Microphones. Also during this time he began touring for about 4 months a year, generating a reputation as an unpredictable and talented live performer. The culmination of this era of work is the album titled Mount Eerie. It is supposedly “death themed,” and after its release he began performing under the name Mount Eerie. It was during this time that he spent a winter alone in far northern Norway, providing fuel for the already prevalent mythology surrounding him as an enigmatic public figure.
Bob Wiseman is a Canadian singer-songwriter. His music blends folk, rock, jazz and very often contains explicitly political themes. He was a member of Blue Rodeo from that band’s inception, departing after their 1992 album Lost Together. He was also a member of The Hidden Cameras and Slutarded. His first solo album was Bob Wiseman Sings Wrench Tuttle: In Her Dream in 1989. He has also produced recordings for Ron Sexsmith, Eugene Chadbourne and Edie Brickell.
