Summertime!!! Nice things are happening, like swimming, bicycle-riding in Verdun, barbecues, etc, including stuff related to our band Nightwood. Plus sunburns and thunderstorms.
First to mention would be our next music video for the song The Bikeriders off of the Big City E.P., which is being shot and directed by Mike Rollo. The song was inspired by early rock n’ roll and the photo above by Danny Lyon from his book about motorcycle culture which is also entitled The Bikeriders. The video is pretty awesome so far and is being shot on hi-contrast 16mm black & white film, so that will probably look cool. Anyhow, the band got sunburned shooting the thing a couple of weeks ago and now Amber is peeling in the most unattractive way. Stills, production photos and the video itself will all be released come September. Watch our first video for Cave of the Spleen here.
Secondly, we’d like to let you know that we’re putting together something of a tour for early Fall and will be be seen and heard in such places as our hometown Montreal, as well as Ottawa, Peterborough, Brantford and the like. For some of these shows we will be playing with our buds PARLOVR, who are pretty fine in every way. Also, Lickety Split smut zine will also be on tour with Nightwood and will be available at stage side. So check out the tour page on our website for more info and dates as they come along!
Third base would have to be songwriting, which is the hardest to write about on a blog, but definitely the most exciting to share. We’re still a pretty young band and we’ve learned a lot about playing, writing and recording together over the past year and a half. So now we’re settling in and humming melodies, jamming loudly together and plucking out tunes on guitars alone in our homes. We’re reading anthologies on music by women, cutting out pictures of art we like and drinking beer all while starting to conceive of a full length album.
Speaking of albums, there’s a nice article in Venus Zine about Ladytron as they discuss their latest record and the future of the album as a format. Also, you might be interested in this post on Indyish about bands playing entire albums in concert.
Best, Nightwood xo
