Spring Puces Pop “Hot Potato” video interviews coming soon

by Tessa Smith

Spring Puces Pop 2008
Marilis and I spent a good part of yesterday passing a wet perogie from vendor to vendor at Pop Montreal’s Spring Puces Pop Craft Fair. Hot Potato is a new video series where we interview artists at festivals, fairs, shows. At the end of each interview, we ask the artist to “pass the potato” to someone they just discovered or to their favourite artist in the room. In the spirit of Puces Pop, which took place in the Polish church on Saint Viateur, we borrowed a potato perogie from the church kitchen, where volunteers were serving delicious food all day. With our floppy potato treat we moved from table to table, talking to lots of interesting folks.

The videos from our first game of Hot Potato will be up soon. Until then, here’s a little video of what the basement of St. Michel’s Church looked like, full of artisans and publishers and screenprinters and illustrators and crafters.

To see all the videos once they’ll be up, you can look up the tag “hot patato” by clicking search on the top right of your screen.

I look forward to seeing them but I don’t look forward to my squeeky high-pitched recorded voice. Oi! We got some really good and varied answers from the vendors, it was really refreshing, unlike the flat perogie that had grown cold and wet by the end of all the interviews!
