SavFaire is really excellent. The first issue (shown) arrived at my work last week. It includes articles about: VillaVillaNola: an mp3 download label (that I’ve talked about here), independent fashion design, freelance writing abroad, animating Miracle Fortress’ magnadoodle-drawn music video, Dungeons and Dragons, and more.
The idea is to make a free zine-style publication with firsthand, experiential writing from Canadian artists and organizations. The mag is distributed to independent shops in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. I’m impressed by the simple, effective layout. The issue is printed in black and white. The website is highly readable. It’s got good writing on interesting subjects. It’s researched and anecdotal. And most of the ads are for projects and centres run by the contributors. Get in touch to get involved. It sounds like anyone is welcome to submit pieces.

SAVFAIRE is a free publication for creative people and organizations who think, work, and live independently. SAVFAIRE features projects and ideas in Canada’s creative community and independent marketplace.
SAVFAIRE doesn’t employ journalists; it relies on contributions from people and organizations who are out there being creative.
Anyone can contribute, regardless of your writing skills. The only requirement is that you speak from personal experience (from the “I” or “we” perspective) and tell a story that would be of interest to the creative community.
While we’re still working on our site, you can e-mail contributions to contribute@savfaire.com.
