Puces POP Highlights 2007

by Risa Dickens

We’ll be tossing up our last thoughts and remnants from the blur that was POP Montreal 2007 here over the next few days. With thousands of artists around over so few days you’ll have to forgive us for having much to say and show on the subject. It’s been nice to hear from friends far away that they’re following the fest through our coverage… so here’s a nearly-last dose friends, this time of the coziest place at POP Montreal, Puces POP.

Last year we had a great table at Puces POP, right at the front doors, and we produced an open source for artists workshop that was pretty cool but man the whole thing was kind of intense, so this year we decided let’s just be Press. Not bound to a table or worried about lugging in computers and rappers and drum machines and screens and projectors and engineers was, as you might imagine, a tinch more relaxing. Maybe we’ll bring down chaos like that every other year.

risa and isaThis year I got to walk around, talk to friends and indyish with tables of their own, and finally meet dear ally Isa in person, which was exciting, as we’ve traded many emails and packages and metaphorical high fives. And now this mad maker lives in Montreal! So we agreed we’ll have beers and scheme up something crafty and awesome soon. I pointed her toward Wooden Apples so maybe she’ll join their hot workshop roster some day.

puces pop 2007people!There were tons of great people and incredible art for sale, so much so it was hard to wrap your mind around it and people we ran into were like us, saying things like: “so many colours! so… much.. stimuli!”

Tristan took these pictures while I chattered, then we had a meeting about a future maybe collaboration with the Loose Joints disco Dj crew upstairs while clown and musicians and bakers and tea-makers circulated and prepared themselves all around us in the comfy lounge. We hung out a bit more with the crafters, then biked on down the road.
