Preview: Milie Croche CD Launch April 1st

Join us next Tuesday at Inspecteur Épingle (4051 St Hubert) to celebrate the release of our friend Milie Croche’s debut CD, 1001 Breakup Songs. The show is free. Milie also made a mix CD of a bunch of different bands (including a track or two from us) that should be available at the show. Pick up advance copies of 1001 Breakup Songs and listen to 3 new songs on her myspace. Milie was previously featured on the Fixture Showcase podcast. We played a show with her a few weeks ago and she’s great live.

Aprèsune quarantaine de spectacles au Québec et en Ontario, Milie Croche lance enfin son premier « vrai » album, intitulé 1001 Breakup Songs, enregistré à Montréal et à Toronto avec Sébastien Tardif (Polipe), John Zytaruk (projet acoustique avec Buck 65) et Geoffrey Côté (Dany Placard, Bivouaq, Le Nom).

L’album contient 12 des 60 chansons composées par Milie Croche dans la dernière année, plus une chanson empruntée à un ami écossais. C’est du folk-country, de l’antifolk plutôt, même de la pop si vous voulez. Les mélodies accrocheuses laissent beaucoup de place aux textes parfois drôles, toujours touchants, qui vous rentrent dedans. Milie ne chante pas fort, mais elle en a long à dire! Sur les garçons, surtout. Pensez à Feist, à Hank Williams et aux Velvet Underground. Et n’oubliez pas Daniel Johnston!

After more than 40 shows in Quebec and Ontario, Milie Croche is releasing her first “real” album, 1001 Breakup Songs, recorded in Montreal and Toronto with Sébastien Tardif (Polipe), John Zytaruk (acoustic project with Buck 65) and Geoffrey Côté (Dany Placard, Bivouaq, Le Nom).

The album contains 12 of the 60-something songs written by Milie Croche in the past year, plus one song borrowed from her Scottish friend Cammy Watt (Les Enfant Bastard). What does it sound like? Call it folk, alt-folk, antifolk, even pop. Milie’s catchy melodies and touching yet funny lyrics go right to the point. Milie doesn’t sing loud, but she has a lot to say! Especially about boys. Think of a mix between Feist, Hank Williams and Velvet Underground. And don’t forget Daniel Johnston!
