Well, tomorrow is the Indyish Monthly Mess. This is perhaps the most mind-blowing Mess for me yet, for a lot of reasons. For one, I’m really excited that we’ll have Nightwood with us, giving away exclusive EP previews of their new album, which just got picked up by local love buds Grenadine Records!!
Also, we’ve partnered with Studio 300, and the venue is ridiculously beautiful. I’m here now, actually, doing some prep for the show tomorrow (well, blogging actually, obviously, but I assure you I’ll be wielding a saw soon). I am having the day-before-show-freakout, which, depending on how things are going either boils down to “will people come?!” or “will there be enough room for everyone!?” In this case, the freak out flavour is the latter, mostly because the Facebook event has a gulp real good showing going! Hopefully people will stream in and out over the course of the night, rather then clumping in and causing a rukus (you rukus makers know who you are! =) Either way, expect live blogging this time round, and we’re well set up to record the show and podcast it, so barring any (un)expected technical difficulties James Finnerty, pod star, will be helping us get show audio up soon after.
The space is gorgeous, and right now feels smaller then I remembered, hence the nail-biting, but so beautiful and warm and full of kind people. Custom designed by a randy filmmaker in the 60’s it’s got a gorgeous glowy dark wood vibe of stylish debauch, like a players ski lodge. I heart this vibe.
Alanah Heffez has been the Artistic Director of the City Mess, so it’s she who you’ve to thank for the joyful themed lineup which includes photos and a Super 8 film by Martin Reisch, Lake of Stew, Geoff Faribault, Charlotte Cornfield, and amazing photos and films from City with a capital (see the Mess page, or just leave some of the goodness for surprises). Tristan Brand has recently stepped up into a kind of Executive Event Producer type position with Indyish, and right now he’s out buying wood to build a stage (I wasn’t lying about the saw wielding in my future.)
We’ll be talking about Griffintown, and pigeons in Williamsburg NY, and what to do with Place D’Armes, and then we’ll be dancing the night away. Come join us, and if it’s too packed, send love, catch the pod instead and come back next time, and meanwhile, if you’re looking for alternate fun, head up ST.Laurent to Sala Rossa to catch the Distroboto benefit with Gambletron, Think About Life and Giselle Numba One… Also pretty much gua-ran-teed to be a highly fine time.
