Poster Winner: Iain Laurie (OneNeck!)

Of all the posters submitted during stage 1 of our poster contest, this one gave me an immediate jolt. I have worked with the artist, Iain Laurie, before and I love his work, so there’s that, and also he designed our logos, when we emailed him with one of our outrageous last minute yelps for help from across the pond. As most everyone here knows, OneNeck is based in Scotland and Elran and I are in Montreal and so we’ve never met in person. This may be the key to a good relationship. (just kidding.)

For true: Iain Laurie’s lines are so confident and bold, and yet this drawing is so detailed- check out the trailing ipod, and the kids tshirts, and the double goggles, and the Montreal-esque skyline, and the real feeling of something launching. It’s all just so dern good, I couldn’t help but fall in love with it and want it on the fliers, and that led to putting it on the top of the daytime posters.

I was worried I might be biased, but I sat down with a great designer friend who’s helped out lots with our printing and layout and such, and he looked at some of the posters with me, and reinforced my feeling that this poster most effectively captured the feeling of us. This gentlemen friend, Nicolas of Receivers, was also the smart brain who suggested designing our schedule to fill half of an 11 by 17 poster, so we could get twice as many. So many nice, smart, wildly talented folks out there, it’s crazy!
