Hey, I like covers. Mainly because when you like a song, sometimes you can only listen to it on repeat so many times until it stops being special, so hearing a different take on a song is exciting! So here’s my attempt at using Audacity for the first time, and you’ll probably figure out soon enough that I’m still figuring out the HOW TOs with that program. These are some pretty well known songs being covered by artists I like, so enjoy!

”All That She Wants” by The Kooks (Ace of Base cover)
I’ve been going on an Ace Of Base binge lately and can just remember all of the summer nights when I was younger, stealing my sister’s CDs and singing along, except that back then, I didn’t really speak English, so all of the songs were just syllables put together, not quite similar to the original words and sung with a french accent. Made all the boys go wild.
”Gimme More” by Sia (Britney Spears cover)
Your token ”what’s this song” cover by a really wonderful singer that I just recently discovered. I was half tempted not to write the title of the song because there’s very few people who actually recognize the lyrics in this very jazzy version.
”Knife” by Atlas Sound (Grizzly Bear cover)
Basically, I’ve been starting to feel a bit sick, so instead of going to take photos at the Atlas Sound show, I went out, bought 2 boxes of orange juice and a big box of clementines and made this podcast instead, getting my Vitamin C and sending a trusty blogger to cover the show in my place. This is my apology to Atlas Sound. I also skipped the Grizzly Bear show at Pop Montreal for similar reasons, so here’s to Grizzly Bear too OK? I also really like the Girl Talk remix of this song, work your hype machine searches to listen.
”Maps” by Arcade Fire (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover)
Maps is still one of my favorite songs. Every time I have people over, at one point in the night, upbeat playlists and CDs are interrupted, I make everyone be quiet, we sit down, play this song and hold hands. The original though. It’s like a modern day ”Cumbaya”.
”Seven Nation Army” by Kate Nash (White Stripes cover)
Kate Nash is just the cutest person ever. I believe that this song can only be heard from one speaker/earphone. We’ll just say it’s for psychedelic effect, but to be honest, I just had some issues with the program, oops!
this is awesome marilis!!! covers are sometimes so painful after you become attached to a version of a song. it can be like the difference between a recording and a live show, but even more dramatic. it’s like, are they allowed to do that? but music should be shared!
