Today is brewing up to a boil of classic Montreal fun. For one, it’s national Quebec day here in Quebec, and so the parc near our house will be even more full of tam tam players and hackysackers and jousters and frisbee players and stoners and kids and medieval revivalists and circus artists then on a usual bangin odd summer Sunday; I think we’ll be joining them with a contingent of friends with guitars. Afterwards we’ll wind our ways up to the site scoped out by every local Mile Ender with an urge for improptu and semi illegal gathering- the sorta-venue formed by the highway that lunges over St Laurent where it meets Bernard at the base of little Italy. This spot has great acoustics (I’ve been there late night with actors and ran around testing - it’s almost auditorium quality) and there’s a nice wall of graffiti art. It screams Event Me and I’ve been yammering about it for awhile and so recently I’ve been tres gratified to see Tessa and Jon slapping art down there, and Sixtoo and the St Viateur street fest throwing parties up. I’m sure there have been gathering going on here for decades - hippy artists in the sixties, mafiose and government types during the sponsorship scandal stuff in the nineties… the latest? a combo St.Jean / Tupac party tonight! Yes, they’re together at last:

Sadly, sinbad’s piece was removed a few weeks back. but it was still there at the last megasoid bridge burner during the street fest. so we’re saying that was the vernissage.
happy st. jean!
