Here are some pics i took at James Finnerty’s EP launch. They are mostly shots of James and Friends during the second half – when the other musicians came up to play along on James’ songs (plus one cover song). All in all, it was an evening of sweet folk sounds – complex – yet easy to listen to. You could say: they tore shit up. But then some people may not get it right away and frown at you.. they may even turn their facebooks away from you forever. So, i’m just gonna say it was a genuine good time. Great job guys!
Now, on to my best attempts at photography..
(all the shots that don’t appear here were either blurry, dark, or had intense red-eye going on. no, i mean really intense.)
Anyway, to start things off rather confusingly, here’s Risa opening the night – playing an original on her purple fluke. not a group shot, i know. but can you guess who her boyfriend is? also of note, this photo seems to be lower quality than all the others as i was messing around with all the settings the entire night. as a result, it’s not clickable (so there’s no larger version). whatever, it’s all gooood..

Ok, here are some group photos. The first one is taken from the second row where i was sitting. Jean-Fred and James Lamb in the background. just pretend the microphone stand isn’t there. good. (click on any of the following pics to see a larger version)
Then i tried to get a shot from a bit further back, but that didn’t seem to be enough for me so i decided to switch the flash settings to “indoor”. nice one. i especially like the white film bubble effect happening over James’ head. but at least i got half way to the back of the room and showed things from a different angle.
Here’s one with the flash settings on “auto” and no special skills on my part. perfection. James looks up and i think he likes what he hears. also, let’s all take a moment to appreciate Dan Schachter’s gray and black striped sweater.
The next one’s a close-up and it looks a bit grainy.. i must have touched something again. oops. still, check out how Jean-Fred’s violin mysteriously floats in mid-air as he plays. now that boy’s got some skills.
ah! how did she know i was about to take the photo. sneaky. and lookin’ quite sinister i might add. what? i didn’t do anything.. stop looking at me. see how her eyes follow yours when you move from side to side.
this last one is James and Emily Brown in mid-harmony. aaaamaaazing. you can also get a good view of James Lamb on slide guitar in the background. catch James Lamb in action again this Saturday night at the Indyish Monthly Mess.
and that’s pretty much all i got..
oh, did i mention you can buy the James Finnerty EP online from the Indyish Boutique? well, you can.
