I recently interviewed Dan Livingstone, a musician and ‘amateur ethnomusicologist’ as he says, who tours Europe regularly but just got back from a first ever tour of China where he crossed the country north to south several times over. In many cases his playing these songs, American traditionals, country, bluegrass pre-1940, was the first time the appreciative crowds had ever heard anything quite like it. And jamming with the people he met along the road and watching the bands on the bill with him he saw instruments and playing styles he never could have quite imagined. I’ll be posting my 20 minute interview with Dan later today on Indyish video, along with a number of short videos he shot himself while there, so watch for that. For now, check out these pictures. Did I mention he was there for the monsoon?
