One Neck Hates Cooking, But He Doesn’t Really Hate Us….Part1

Indyish: So you’re Scottish, which is interesting. My best friend’s husband is from the Glasgow area. When I first met him I could understand 20% of what he said, but now I’m pretty fluent. so,
1) What made you want to volunteer your cool drawing skills to a small Canadian website (with big aspirations)?

One Neck: I came across Open by chance, looking for websites or publications that would accept submissions and stuff. There was a few that were, but none that were as friendly and “open”(sorry).

Indyish: 2) What makes you want to publish your art in particular publication or website?

One Neck: Usually it depends on two things. One, to be associated with something good and worthwhile and two, and it’s the nature of the beast, to be involved with something that will get you a fair bit of exposure and let people see your work. If you can do both, then you’re on a winner.

Indyish: And how is Scotland? Do you find artistic inspiration in where you live or is going outside so last-decade? I mean, has the internet opened up your field of inspiration to encompass the globe? Do you have any interest in visiting the real Canada one day or do you prefer the online one?

One Neck: Scotland is… ok. It has its great sides, but it has its dour, small-minded sides too. There is definitely a culture of keeping people in their place and discouraging lofty ambitions.There’s also a tendency to play up to tourist expectations and indulge in the whole kilts/haggis/Braveheart aspects of Scotland, which i hate. It’s as cool and exciting as any other country but seems reluctant to show that off. My artistic inspiration is a difficult thing to categorise. I suppose being Scottish does come into it, but I try and avoid that. I’d love to visit Canada. It seems like, to an outsider, like America without the crap! Also so much genius comedy comes from there that it MUST be cool.
