Ok, I’m sure you’ve all been noticing little things here and there that are new this week. As most of you should know- this site and the creative projects that are extentions of it are made with ressourcefulness and massive hours of unpaid crazy work by wild eyed fiends who think they’re on to something! So, while Tessa’s been Assembling and I’ve been coordinating across upcoming projects, Elran’s been programming, lord love him. As you guys maybe know, he’s always working on a new version of the site in secret so we can do these periodic refreshments quite frequently.
The most obvious change has to be those made to the right sidebar. The slight reorganization of the site layout now allows those four ad spots to remain on every page of the site. For now, those ads are referrals, so if you click on them and buy what they’re peddling - if decide to put ads on your own site, for example - Indyish makes a small bit of dough. Our intention with those four ads spots is to provide a few select advertisers/sponsors with visibility throughout the entire site. You’ll also notice that we’ve added an “Advertise” button to the top right links. If you are interested in appearing on Indyish and helping to fuel our growth and thereby the visibility of your ad, check out that page and then get in touch.
Also, you’ve probably noticed that the Artist names no longer appear on the Indyish homepage, but on the Artists page instead. Not only is this more logical, it lets us bring the most recent happenings on the site up higher on the front page making it more active and more reflective of what is currently going on. It also leaves the way clear for lots of new stuff that’s coming soon, but I’m gonna be tight lipped on those for now. Anyway, you can always get to the Artists page by clicking on the little “indy star” icon (third one at the very top of the right sidebar) which is beside the “what’s this?” link.
Another thing that’s new - on every page (main pages like About, and category pages like Art, Clothing, Music and Lit) now show a list of links called “related pages”. So, for example, when you’re on the Clothing page you can now go straight to Tshirts, or belts, etc and explore all the different ways Indyish goods are organized throughout the site. This is pretty helpful for navigation, so look out for it on the right sidebar when you visit these types of pages.
You may also note that in addition to those 4 ads remaining in the side bar, there is a collection of other useful links that travel with you as you navigate as well - Browse by Artist takes you to that Artist page (mentioned earlier) with everyone’s name and profiles and archives of products; browse by Category and Tags are really useful ways of finding your way around as well. If you’re interested in staying up to date on any and all of these areas of Indyish you now have a much easier way of accessing Indyfeed central as this remains in the side bar now as well. See the large orange RSS icon? Click on that to get the feed for Indyish, or click on the smaller link marked: “Indy Feed Central” to select which specific areas of the site you want to follow. Indy Feed Central also has links to lots of information about RSS - what it is, and what the most popular RSS readers are, and other useful info for tapping into this relatively new technology.
And that’s just for starters..
Elran will be writing a bit more about specific features (some of which are available to logged in users only) - but if anyone has any questions about the most recent site changes, please feel free to leave a comment below and and we’d be glad to clear things up for ya!
