One week after the launch weekend we found ourselves gathered inside the Acting Studio of Montreal, watching all the submissions to the 24 Hour Music Video Making Competition, sipping beer and nibbling packaged peanuts.
Many of the filmmakers were around and I took the chance to interview them about the how and why of this crazy project. The interviews are hilarious and I’m in the process of editing them into watchable bits which you’ll soon see on the site.
Some of the bands were there, including members of Telefauna, who had judged the videos at the launch weekend.
It was great to get everyone together: makers, helpers, judges, organizers, and friends. I’ve heard people say how filmmaking is very much about the environment created by a theatre audience. The interaction between the images created and the audience’s laughter, silence, and applause creates that particular experience of the film. Plus, having an audience of friends and soon-to-be friends turns the whole event into a mutual sharing of talent, interest….and beer. And yes, I’m gonna keep saying mutual-this and mutually beneficial-that.
Also, the winners of our Music Video Making Competition are going to be screened at Filmpop in October, which is a part of PopMontreal. Watch out!
