If Franco Proietti’s mind were a dusty attic, “Morphology”, the debut album by his Morph-tet, would be the contents of the first randomly opened trunk. While the first explanation of the cd (“A bunch of different songs written in different genres and recorded with many different musicians in different studios) may make it sound… well … different – This supposedly disparate cd seems held together by a common thread of playful musical experimentation.
Musically speaking, the disk spends most of it’s time in the area that borders the regions of jazz, hip hop and funk. However, given the digressive mentality of the writer, there are a couple of colourful tangents; including a chain gang type work song, a scary waltz and a trippy absinthe soaked proclamation. Guests on the cd include former Kobayashi band mates of Franco, Omari Newton on the mic (Bushido) and Josh Gearey on the tenor sax (The D.T’s) as well as Montreal jazz master, Dave Turner contributing a face melting solo on baritone sax (Lucky 13).
