Tired of hearing about it yet? Not at all! This month’s mess was hardly messy and what a lovely night it was! You might remember I had taken pictures at the last monthly mess, but after uploading them on a friend’s computer, as I needed space on my disk for a photo shoot that day, they somehow disappeared off her desktop and were never to be found again… I decided to bring that friend with me and point fingers her way whenever someone mentioned that incident.
So we followed the business cards up to the second floor, slipped into the open door, hung our coats, tiptoed through a beautiful red entrance with silk curtains and sat on a partially empty couch. There was a bearded man singing in a foreign language with just his acoustic guitar and it was beautiful. I thought, “how very Indyish!”. A bit into the set, we started hearing noise coming from another room and someone got up to apologize and that’s when it hit me (actually, not quite then), that I had no idea what he was saying. My friend Joline turns to me and whispers: “Why is it that it seems like everyone here understands what he’s saying?” and I finally looked around and noticed that I knew absolutely no one in that room and that we were, in fact, the only girls. We picked up our things and practically ran out of there bursting in laughter and we heard clapping coming from next door, the glorious door to the Tricycle media loft! I won’t go into details about the wonderful people we had the pleasure of listening to throughout the evening, that’s been done, so here is a few visuals, enjoy!
There’s more in the Indyish Schmooze Talk Flickr Group should you want to take a look!
I’ll leave you with a quote Joline said and I thought was worth sharing. She’s from a small town in Nova Scotia where everyone knows everyone and on the way to the monthly mess, she was telling me how there was no traffic lights in her town. She said “And I thought the Montreal Indie scene was fun! The Indyish people are even better!”
“Are you Charles?”
that still cracks me up.
definitely one of the many highlights of the night!
