Montreal Fringe Reviews :: More Shows to see! :: Part 2 (and final)

Naughty Little Children by Chelsea P. Manders

Come meet Lucy, a new fresh day care teacher, who has decided to open her own Daycare, and take responsibility of little children (the audience).

Chelsea P. Manders’ Naughty Little Children, invites you into the life of “Lucy” (acutally Tiffany), as she attempts to recover her life, (what’s left of her sanity), is folk singing, “real life”, show that will keep you going from beginning to end!

A lot of the shows this year, that I’ve seen at the fringe, do what most do, involve the audience. This show is no different at all. In fact, it’s audience involvement, was probably the most, how shall I say, special (yet, really a lot of fun!).

A deftinite must see on my list of shows! There are only two left; and they’re happening at the Cabaret Just for Laughs:

Today (June 19th) @ 2:15pm
June 20th @ 7:15pm

Uncalled For Presents: Today Is All Your Birthdays

I’ve had the opportunity (like a lot of others who have seen Uncalled For over the past year), to get a glimpse into what this show was going to be like. They tested sketches on audiences, and it worked! I saw this show twice at their preview showing at Mainline Theatre just a couple of weeks ago, and again this past Wednesday; and there was even a huge improvement from one show to the next.

Today is All Your Birthdays, is a smaller show in cast, they brought themselves down to a small core of their four players, and while you might have gotten used to a huge cast from previous years, this show will not disappoint you in any way. Full of some of the smartest comedy and writing I’ve seen, Uncalled For, has put on one hell of a show. Again, I don’t like to give too much away, but I will say this: time travel and birthdays have never been this funny!

Today is All You Birthdays is playing at the Just for Laughs Studio, and there’s only two shows left:

June 20th @ 2:00pm
June 21st @ 7:30pm

Tired Clichés by Alex Eddington (an origianl piece by TJ Dawes)

Fringe favourite TJ Dawe’s first solo hit returns, in a new way by Alex Eddington. I won’t pretend in any way that I knew of this play before the Fringe For All Out of Towners, but I got the chance to see it, and it was a fantastic one man show!

I love one act plays, especially ones, that can grab you and hold on to you for the full show (and it’s been a while). Eddington’s performance was able to keep me grounded throughout the full show. While this piece does have a more serious undertone, the show is quite funny and well put together. What surprised me more is that Alex Eddington doesn’t have a large acting background, he’s a musician and composer first.

Tired Clichés, has a series of different monologues that seem quite unrelated but come together at the end, in a fantastic way. Each monologue describes the life of a person who is looking for simplicity more than anything else, but needs something higher just to achieve it!

A very well performed piece that you should see before the Fringe Festival comes to an end!

Tired Clichés is playing at the Portuguese Association of Canada, and there are two shows left:

June 19th @ 5:15pm
June 20th @ 10:00pm

Unfortunately this brings my blogging to an end. I’m in Toronto for the Worldwide Shorts Film Festival, where my film Surfing the Waste: a Musical Documentary about Dumpster Diving, is being screened. So I want to wish the rest of you a wonderful rest of Fringe 2009, and please these shows are just a fraction of what’s out there! I’m feeling like I’ve seen more but simply forgetting! (if I am, I will get those reviews to you!) I have to say, I had a wonderful Fringe this year, from the Fringe Mess last Friday (June 12th) all way until the end of the 13th Hour on late Wednesday (or very early Thursday). So go check these and the many other shows out!

That’s it for now.
