Alright, this has nothing to do with the Osheaga contest or the upcoming Monthly Mess, but it’s nerdy cool and perfect for a rainy day. I suspect that if you enjoy the creative process you’ll get a kick out of this (thanks, Dan for reminding me about it!)
Tonight at SAT Cafe you can check out software art in action:
sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ! - FRIDAY 24th – SAT café, 8pm
by Sven König
sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ! is a Realtime-Mind-Music-Video-Re-De-Construction-Machine. It is a conceptual software which makes it possible to work with samples in a completely new way by making them available in a manner that does justice to their nature as concrete musical memories.
Which sounds intriguing but confusing/maybe even boring, HOWEVER! on the performance page of the gent’s website you’ll find a description that, by virtue of it’s wordy play, makes me want to take a peek at his musical memories:
an orgiastic electrical storm of shivered MTV aesthetics. Musically between techno, breakcore and noise somewhere, visually colorful and rapidly cut nowhere. Additional effects like fog, laser and stroboscopes guarantee total stimulus satiation - and pure poptimism to be radiated.
The show is part of the Pure Data conference:
PureData Convention 07 consists of a series of conferences, demonstrations, round table discussions, performances and exhibitions. The convention strives to reflect on the aesthetics and politics of Free Open Source Software culture by focusing on the development, artistic uses and critical writing about PureData. L’Œuvre ouverte advances the collective development of PureData through group coding sessions and by fostering a constructive dialogue among programmers, users and theoreticians.
Group coding. That’s awesome and if you improvise or analyse in any medium I bet you could help out. There’s info on the SAT and other Pure Data venues here.
I hope to make it down to the SAT soon to meet up with a VJ, Sakara, who performs there regularly as part of the monthly “Mixsessions,” because he’s going to be joining us next week, performing as part of the MonthlyMess. Ah heck. So I lied (at the top of this post). Ah well.
