Mirror Polls- Best of Montreal analysis

by Marilis Cardinal

This is not so much analysis as it is more like observations. I just got my copy of the Mirror after receiving an email that the BOM issue of the Montreal Mirror was out and man, what a fun little surprise! My blog, the Pregnant Goldfish, somehow managed to crawl into second place for the best blog category. That is insane. My brain child for the past 10 months is a compilation of street style and party photos, accompanied by ramblings, and yet somehow, I guess people dig it. Surprisingly, this little wonder of a blog (Indyish), that contains far more intelligent posts is a pretty strange omission from the  best of Montreal polls. Too bad!  The caption reads: Goodbye sleaze. Jesus Martinez’s smutblog, Drunken Stepfather has been ousted out of top place by about-towners Midnight Poutine and style blog Pregnant Goldfish, which unlike Drunken Stepfather, focuses less on tits and more on what covers those tits.

At least two of our beloved monthly mess hosts made it on the polls, namely Peter Radomsky who got number 1 for best comedian and Tony Ezzy, as freakiest local act. Our dearest blogger/indyish core member Sarah Pearson outdid Celine Dion in the best singer/songwriter section. Our newest recrutee ms. Alison Louder is  also to be seen in two  categories, loudest activist and best local actress. And Darren Curtis from Kidnapper Films scored 2nd spot as best local filmmaker.

Interesting fact: for best politician, the number one spot was ”None/Doesn’t exist/Hahaha!”.

Oh man, I could go on, but go pick up your copy!

um, that is so waaaack i do not even know how i made it onto those polls but i’m not complaining….seeing as i’ve played like 2 shows ever. holler!!

  2. Risa Dickens proclaims with a mighty roar:

Past Monthly Mess host Miss Gina also made #3 for Best Drag Queen, awesome!

The poll is always odd, we’ve never campaigned for it (not that that determines who gets it always, note the above comment from the um pleased but confused sarah) but cheered friends who made it and definitely it’s great stuff for press releases, aside from that i try not to worry my head about it. Thanks and congrats Mar. =)

Congrats everyone!!! This is proof that if you work hard and from the heart, that it’s good for the community, and the community will recognize that. My jaw dropped when I saw how many people I knew were in this year’s BOM, and nearly dislocated when I saw I made it into the Best Actress category. I don’t campaign for this kind of stuff, either, but I’m still damn proud of us all :) We should throw a party to celebrate just because we can!
