Mess. Montreal says HI!

How does one go about blogging? I’m glad there’s no answer to this question, as it prevents me from thinking I’m doing something wrong. I’m good at beating myself up like that. I’m also glad because I think the desire to make something new and good and accessible out of what is unknown or misunderstood is the fuel that keeps creative fires burning. I also believe it’s that desire that brought Indyish and Mess. Montreal together. After a serendipitous first encounter, we met the kind folks at Indyish to chat about what the heck we’re all doing and how we can help each other out. They thought, and we agreed, that a good step in the right direction would be to have us contribute to their blog. So here I am, in front of my computer, grabbing a 15 minute gap in my workday to take a stab at getting the Mess.age out. Cause that’s all anyone can do, I suppose, find time and use it to try and build something that you can’t quite define, but you sense is there. Natalie and I have found, in our journey with Mess. which began over 3 years ago, that if you’re on the right track, you’ll find more time, and more definition, and more people who want to help you, and you believe more and more that one day you’ll wake up and it’ll all be real. That’s the Mess.age, that the dream can be real, not by some act of God or some stroke of genius, but by small and patient steps in the right direction. We hope that you’ll believe it too. Nice to meet you.

Enchantée indeed! We are pleased to be evolving amongst the Indyish community and look forward to future dialogue, exchange, learning, and adventures the doors that led us here have opened. Mess Montreal is the powerful idea that brings business sense to artists and unites the public with the plentiful local culture it has available to explore. Our past experience has positioned us to work within the cultural industry, offering services such as PR and promotion, creative consulting, marketing, event planning, etc. however our vision expands to the world wide web and will be actualizing there in the future. The underlying purpose of Mess. Online is to build a network through which we can help spread the creative messages of our community and encourage a sustainable artistic culture. Stay tuned! Sharing this process and project is something we believe we can all benefit from. To get warmed up, we’d love to open discussions over time on some topics we can all relate to.

Here’s what you’ve won folks…

Mes.MOntreal

Mess. Montreal was born out of Natalie and Nadine’s experience in both artistic and business environments. As singers in a band, they quickly realized how difficult it was to track down accurate and helpful resources, be it for booking a show or printing posters, finding a coach or space to practice. As John Molson School of Business grads, they realized how many aspects of the indie cultural scene lacked some basic, simple business sense. They began to find ways in which they could use their knowledge and experience to help their artist friends in their careers. They also pushed their natural tendency to network to a more conscious and structured level. This process is what created Mess. Montreal, a framework that will manifest itself through an online network, events, consultation, and more. The goal is to facilitate the transmission of an artistic message, be it for the artist sending it or the public ready to receive it.

In its present form, Mess. is a collective of young professionals that offer services within the cultural industry. Focused mainly on marketing, promotion, pr, event planning, resource management, and English <-> French translation, the founding members of the Mess. community have their own messages to share and spread support where they fit the needs of those around them. We’re just getting started, and thrilled that you’re coming along for the ride.
