Meets with Team Indyish

by Risa Dickens

So here’s a little update from the Indyish: We’ve instated a bimonthly meetin… heads up. This meet has been, thus far, for the core team, and has been a way for us to ferment a bit and turn our youthful grapejuice workings into finer wines (officially we’re only 1, remember). We had our third team meet yesterday. We talked about the Blog, the rest of the site, the MonthlyMess, and Large Scale projects like the Assembly, which have lots of build-up and follow-up.

We have an unintentionally mostly girly time, aside from Founder man Elran, who emerges smiling from deep in the code; and Tristan, who sometimes can make it; and Josh who’s always down except when he’s living in another country like he is now.

Whoever shows, it’s been so good to keep seeing each other’s real faces and to remember, oh yeah, all these sweet people are working on the same thing because they are having fun with it and also because they see the potential in the network. This is endlessly amazing.

Based on what we talked about last night, here’s some quickie insight into what the crew is up to:

These days Alanah and Sarah and Tessa are working on understanding the natural tendencies in the group blog to start to give it some rhythm and structure, with regular features and uncluttered tagging. They’re calling for new writers in different cities and building lists of ideas for blog posts. Want to get involved? Email

Lise, my new internish, has been working with me on some new Indyish pages, like a Fact sheet and Code of Ethics which we’ll be adding to the About page soon. It’s ongoing work to keep these pages up to date - recently I’ve been polishing up the Team page, and the How To’s for posting, and there’s tons more pages to always be pluggin away at.

Marilis is working here in Montreal on coordinating the next MonthlyMess - the eclectic Indyish arts showcase now going into it’s 6th month - she’s emailing back and forth with Josh, who’s in the US for a bit, and with the artists and venue managers, etc. We’re all getting stoked for the next show because the acts we’re looking at having are kickass, and because pretty much all the acts from the last show were nice enough to let us know they had a good time and would play another mess in the future. One even said “I’d have paid 50$ to see talent like that.” C’mon. That’s awesome.

Tessa, with Sarah, Alanah and myself, has been working on the Assembly book. We have another meeting for that today with Tristan too, where we’ll be jotting down the last of anything and everything we can think of about the project for inclusion in the workbook, before compiling it all as PDF’s and getting it up on Lulu.com.

We’ve also got video footage to capture, chop and upload from the Mess and from the Assembly. We tend to get a bit behind on video, I guess just cause it requires equipment and a sizable time commitment, but we’re getting better. Heck- I figure it’s a good step just to be getting everything documented. If by any chance you think you can help us with this challenge we’re facing, email me directly - .

Tristan’s starting to talk and work on a early-fall mini concert idea, which Indyish will be helping to produce, probably out in NDG, because why the heck not. We’ll tell you more when there’s more to tell.

Aside from all this, we’ve been prepping to finally let in some new artists, and to unleash some new features of the site which we’ve been working on for a long while. In other words, lots is coming round the corner for the Indyish. But that’s it for now…

To give you a peek: Here’s pics from 2 meetings ago, which we help at Ile Sans Fils hotspot Citron Vert, on Mount Royal near Jeanne Mance Parc. These shots come to us care of mademoiselle Marilis Cardinal:
