It’s not a rivalry thing…

by Franco

OK - I know that in the past (and maybe still, but I’ve stopped paying attention) a whole bunch has been made about this rivalry between Montreal and Toronto.  Lord knows, I was once a wearer of “Toronto Sucks” buttons.  As far as I’m concerned, they both have cool spots and not so cool spots and it’s all about having a native show you around the cool spots.  I remember enjoying a Toronto Fringe Fest and hanging out in Kensington Market - even cooking an Italian meal for a birthday celebration for the infamous Risa Dickens a while back (well- closer to a decade ago at this point) and really having a great time.  I’ve also played many shows in the Toronto downtown area for unappreciative crowds who were only there to see their buddies and ended up having an awful time.  The same types of things can be said for my hometown.

So where am I going with all of this?  Yet again - it’s a long winded introduction to a simple invitation to a show.  This Friday September 19th - the Franco Proietti Morph-tet will be playing a show at the Centre St AmbroiseLast time we played there, we had an amazing time and a very good turn out, though I think a lot of the folks there were fans of the headlining band - they gave us a good reception anyway.  So I really think that this is the kind of place that like minded Torontonians would dig, rather than hanging out at Thursday’s on Crescent street.  Well, guess what?  The band that we’re playing with on Friday - The Ninja Funk Orchestra is from Toronto.  The last time we played their city, almost the whole band came out to show love & support.  One member said that he was embarrassed for his city that almost no one came to the show (I chalked it up to the fact that it was our first show in a city where no one knew us).  Anyhow - what I’m trying to say here is that I’d love to show these guys a great time in Montreal - and I’d love it if a whole bunch of people showed up the the concert.  Here are the details: 5080 St Ambroise street in St Henri.  9:00-9:30 PM starting time.  Seriously, the first act will NOT start after 9:30.  It’ may turn into an open jam session after both bands have played their sets, so bring your axe.  7 bucks gets you in.  If you haven’t heard the Morph-tet - now’s your chance… I’m genuinely proud of this project If you haven’t seen this venue yet, now’s your chance, it’s reallllly hip.  If you haven’t heard the Ninja Funk Orchestra yet - you don’t know what you’re missing…. great music!  Hope to see you there, let’s show our musical brothers & sisters from Toronto that there’s no rivalries when it comes to art… it’s all about love.
