In.Sight- Organization… makes it happen!

by Natalie Riviere

Happy new year Indyishers! May you all live your dreams on levels that keep you inspired and assured that anything is possible. Hard work, a strong will, and a positive outlook to each and every one of you!

In the spirit of making the work a little easier, our focus this week is on organization. Along the way, some of the best advice I ever received was something seemingly obvious that never fails: write it out!

Committing thoughts to paper creates space for more ideas and new insight on a given topic. When people are bombarded with so many things to do in a day, and multiple angles to consider in a project, they get flustered and become paralyzed. If you make a list, trust that eventually you will stop writing and it may be surprisingly shorter than you expected. Lists can be worked and reworked, circulated and analyzed.

I am reinforcing this point this week as it’s become a hot topic for us at Mess Montreal. We have begun work with an intern and simultaneously with Puff and the Pillpoppers (http://www.puffandthepillpoppers.com) an innovative local band boasting a very significant message. To make the most of our time and efforts, our initial priority is to create lists and other simple tables to help us organize all our tasks and info, and make sure everyone involved can easily stay on the same page. Entrepreneurship may not be what you signed up for as an artist, but keeping simple logs, lists, and reference documents will go a long way, and it’ll free up space in your brain that you can use for the stuff that matters to you: art!
