We have a fantastical hiphop holiday party coming up Dec 17 at Club Lambi. Which to me, seems like a dream. A good dream. A very good dream. And the dream keeps getting sweeter.
As many of you know, we at Indyish often work with a lad in Scotland named Iain Laurie, or OneNeck, for illustrations. He’s done loads of work for free for us, including our logos which we love, and has basically been amazing at communicating visually what exactly we hope this odd Indyish thing to be. So for once, heading into the planning and promoting buzz for the Holla-Days, I figured I could wrassle up my pennies and offer to pay him for some work. Not a lot, but you know, something. I contacted him about this, and here’s what the always astonishing lad had to say:
Hello
Id be quite happy to do your poster.Black and white?
Ill do it like I did the flyer, and leave plenty of
space for info that you can add yourself? As for that
$,please give it to charity(an animal one
preferably).
c’mon. That’s too awesome. We talked about it, and agreed on the SPCA. Look at all these guys that need rescueing! I’ll be making that donation in the coming days. In fact, El and I are trying to figure out when and whether we can afford to adopt a little dog buddy of our own, to give him or her a good home with us, near Mount Royal parc. In which case, we will name him OneNeck in honour of our very dear friend whom we have never met.
As for that poster, well, OneNeck kicked in with the illustration you see below. And it’s perfect- for the show, POP has invited Bold Saber, ThunderHeist and Giselle Numba One to perform, and participate in our 24hr music video making contest (mvmc). All 3 have these inspiring gals front and center, some solo, some playing nice with teams of guys, so I love that the poster features a wise looking lady midst a tough pack of loveable homies. Anyway- check this out, and when and if you see it on the streets of Montreal, remember that this poster already has heroic puppy saving powers in it’s past, and so you should definitely come check out our party! To perpetuate the spirit of giving, one dollar will be taken off the price of admittance to the show for every non-perishable you bring. These will go to the Mile End Mission’s Christmas Baskets, so the party-ers can help spread some love around to other local folks in our neighborhood. Cheers yo.

please note- registering in advance for the MVMC will become possible by the end of this week. thanks for your patience. see you soon!

Hi Risa and friends,
Just want to say that I worked at the Mile End Mission for three (four??) years and saw first hand the benefits of the Christmas Baskets in the Mile End community and the way they alleviated stress on families and lower-income folk, including new arrivals and seniors…so big-up for contributing to the cause!
