Indyish, CUTV and CJAD

by Risa Dickens

Ok, so as James Finnerty mentioned, he, Tristan and I trundled down in the 1am to talk on the for-reals, air-waves-styles radio. Elran didn’t come because that’s the middle of his work day. Still, I think we held it down ok without our codeland wrangler, but you tell us what you think - That podcast is now up over here:

Note- If you have any troubles streaming it can you let me know what browser you are using? It’s fine when I test it but some people are reporting it sounds sped up.

In it, if we don’t sound like speed freaks to you, you can hear us figuring out stuff, dream scheming, bean spilling, cheerleading, and thinking out loud. Seriously, I think because we got to talk for quite a while and answer some good questions, it gives a nice idea of where we’re at with this evolving love labour we call home. I mean Indyish. And, James plays a lovely live version of his song Borderline Ferry!

In other cool, media related Indyish news, we are officially breaking bottles on the hull of our new community partnership with Concordia University Television. This is so awesome! Tessa had proposed collaborating somehow with the university TV project when we were in the midst of pulling the second Assembly project together, and though we tried, somehow it didn’t come together then. Sometimes you can’t add every element you’d like to to a project, it can only survive so much complexity and we’ve (I’ve) still got lots to learn about that, as you’ll hear in the podcast, actually.

But! I think opportunities come around again. In this case, the CUTV station manager approached me on the bus. He complimented my Celtx bag and we got to talking about video, before you knew it flyers had exchanged hands and, a few meetings and high fives later, we have a great new sponsor relationship with a passionate community television organization. Our Indyish shows will be produced as video with help and equipment from CUTV and played on the CUTV screens on campus alongside other original community and student programming, and will be featured in a CUTV catalogue on Indyish video.

We agree, thanks are due to the open source video/film pre-production software Celtx that sponsored the Assembly both times with a small bit of cash, huge personal touch help, and some neat gear… including the aforementioned magical swag bag!
