Indie Rock Hockey and the Fair Trade Trade Fair

by Tessa Smith

Tonight (Friday) is the first night of Le Puck Quebecois, an indie rock hockey tournament featuring 10 co-ed teams with Patrick Watson, members of The Rheostatics and folks from Ninja Tune Records, Cheap Thrills, the Hour, the CBC and others fighting it out on the ice, and all for the glory of the Quebecois Cup. It should be really fun.

Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 1:30pm, and Sunday finals at 4pm

At Mont-Royal Arena (4365 Cartier)

Admission is $3 and all proceeds go to the Montreal Canadiens Foundation.

Also Friday and Saturday Comite de l’economie sociale de L’ile de Montreal (CESIM), the Chantier de l’economie sociale, and Equiterre are bringing together 40 environmentally and socially conscious vendors at the Marche Bonsecours (325 de la Commune E.) for a national exhibition of clothes, crafts, furniture, and technology.

The fair runs Friday from 2-9 with a fair-trade fashion show at 7pm and Saturday from 10-5 with a conference on fair trade at 3pm.

Check out Chantier’s website for info on presenters (in French).
