Proving yet again that unofficial “amateur” videos often trump official productions, Andy Cahill created this video for Devendra Banhart’s cover of the Oasis song “Don’t Look Back In Anger” from the Guilt By Association album (volume 1) in which indie artists cover their favorite guilty pleasure pop songs, thanks to Engine Room Recordings. The label also produced the music video contest that brought this lovely video into the world (and hey, ps - Volume 2 of Guilt by Association just came out on itunes and you can stream it on the Engine Room website, and check the Pitchfork Review here.):
In this one we enjoy Devendra with his kooky girlfriend Natalie Portman, aw, fun for the gorgeous and fabulous, terrific, so happy for them… until they break up a few months later and columnists get snarky. No longer jealous, but this still looks like it was fun:
And this last one is newisher, Devandra goofing around with Fabrizio Moretti from The Strokes in a video preview for his Megapuss project with Greg Rogove of Priestbird:
We’ve got some more joyful, sexy, psych folk, freak folk, New Weird America up on Indyish Video and please add anything good we might be missing.
Thanks for posting these — I particularly like the Natalie Portman cameos!
