Indie Love?

by Risa Dickens

In a little gchat moment of inspiration yesterday we hatched a scheme for a possible Indyish column I’d like to get thoughts on; a column about love and relationships, especially the unique dynamics of lookin’ for and keeping real love (someone to set my heart free, ya, real love,) in this day, age, and scene.

I can’t claim to be an expert, but I’ve been in a happy relationship for 7 years (I’m 27) and did some solid dating time, much with people I still consider friends, long before that. I think there are hot tips out there, potentially; ways of thinking about love, things I’ve learned from friends and exs and my own dumb-ass mistakes about what NOT to do that I’d be glad to share to save others from the suffering, if at all possible.

Here are some titles for articles in a would-be Indyish Love series:

  • guess what? you’re the player
  • gender is so over
  • do you know where your balls are?
  • you may need more colour
  • the log in your own eye
  • you can go your own way

What do you think? Useful on Indyish.com? It seemed out of place to me maybe at first, except, you know, the name Indyish is kind of also about how I think love works: people independent but all mixed up in each other at the same time. Want to hear more stunning bits of prose like this, and unnecessary rhyming? Let me know in the comments below!

PS - While you think about it, check out these 2 sites I found on Indie Love. Neither have anything to do with relationships, both are neato.

Indie Love Radio - Indielove.ca - is all about featuring Canadian indie music on their website, which of course has been IndieCan’s MO for a longtime, but that’s ok, there’s probably room for more than 1 of anything that’s out to do some good. My only complaint about IndieLove.ca, just based on a quick visit, would be that I couldn’t find the names of the artists whose songs were streaming, and when I tried to open the players in the bottom right I got broke notices. Aside from that I had a nice time on the site.

Indie Love Biz - Indielove.biz is a blog of love for indie designers. Lots of jewelery and other pretty goodness, good for hours of dream shopping, mostly reads like the author’s own ‘best of etsy’, which I’m sure is a service the designers featured appreciate… love, even, just to bring it back.
