Indie Games to Play on Sunday

by Risa Dickens

Well right off the bat, let me introduce you to our well-loved Retro Games series, in case you are just looking to find some fun video games to play online. Also, while you’re here and I’m suggesting things, you might dig this podcast on the creative process in indie game development.

Ok, now go check out the indie game guide on Indiegames.com. There is an epic list of free-to-cheap independent games, many of them flash games you can play online, like flOw, which I have recently discovered is lovely and addictive:

Born from Jenova Chen’s undergraduate thesis on dynamic difficulty adjustment (”DDA”) in video games, flOw is a landmark experiment in game development. Whereas most games rely on tension and forced challenges to keep you interested, flOw draws the player in by allowing them to adjust the challenge themselves through actions performed during the game. With crystalline graphics and soothing, ambient music, the result is an experience you can truly get lost in.

For the less boudary pushing and utterly beautiful but equally nerdy and fun (and twice as embeddable!) here is my other guilty indie game pleasure, this one brings me back to road trips when I was a kid and comes to us today from Owen’s WOrld:

Sorry, you will need the <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/" target="_blank">Flash Player</a> to play this game.
